Flame of the Forest

Flame of the Forest consists of brothers Krsna Tan (Sitar), Govin Tan (Tabla) & Dexter Tan (Violin).

In the last couple of years, they have performed extensively in countries like Malaysia, India, Indonesia, China, USA and South Korea, covering more than 200 concerts as a individual, group &/or collaboration with other artists.

 They play a vast genre of music which includes Jazz, Pop, Traditional Indian, Western Classical and Oriental Chinese.

At the age of 12, Krsna charmed the panel of judges from Malaysia, India, Pakistan and Australia, and won the 1st prize at the National Indian Music Competition in 2002.

 

“He is very talented and played at a very advanced stage for someone his age” – Sitar Maestro Narinder from Punjab India.

 

Today, Krsna is regarded as one of Singapore's leading exponents in Sitar playing, and has since developed a style that is uniquely his own. His interpretation of genres push the boundaries of musical traditions, and his relentless curiosity to reinvent tunes results in the musician you see today.

In 2006 & 2008, Govin won 1st prize in the National Indian Music Competition.

In 2011, Govin performed with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) at the “exuberance of Youth” as tabla soloist.  

 

“Without a doubt he is certainly the best young tabla player that I have ever encountered thus far”. - Executive conductor Tsung Yeh

 

In the same year, Govin was chosen by National Arts Council to represent Singapore at the “2011 Asia Traditional Orchestra Concerts” held in Seoul, Korea.

Dexter Tan

A western classically trained violinist who started playing at the age of 7 is equally versatile with oriental and traditional Indian music.

 

“The quality and flavor of the violin was well sustained all through the evening recital. It was, rich, toned and a highly proficient musicianship” – A captivated audience during The President Star Charity Show 2007.

 

“I heard their stuff at the President Cultural Medallion Awards and thought it was genius, When “My Magic” started to form, I tracked these kids down and got them to play the soundtrack”­ – Director & Executive Producer Eric Khoo
